Many Sacramentans who remember shopping at the iconic Weinstock's Department Store are unaware the company originated in Sacramento and had deep roots in the city's consumer history.
My current book, Weinstock's: Sacramento's Finest Department Store, (August 2012, The History Press) traces the history of Weinstock's from its 1874 beginnings as the 10-foot by 12-foot Mechanics' Store at the corner of 4th and K Streets, through its Northern California, Nevada and Utah expansion, and to its eventual closure in the 1990s.

I am researching Sacramento's own unique Prohibition history, and I'm looking for personal family stories about the people directly involved.
Is there a bootlegger, law enforcement officer, local politician or anti-saloon activist in your family's past? Please contact me...I'd love to talk to you!
